Tributo a Lou Reed

Lewis Allen Firbank, mejor conocido como Lou Reed, falleció hoy ( 27/10/13) a los 71 años de edad. Aún no se saben las causas de su muerte, aunque, según la revista Rolling Stone, en mayo se sometió a un transplante de hígado.

Lou Reed  nació en Freeport, Long Island N.Y. (2 de marzo de 1942), asistió a la Universidad de Syracuse donde estudió Poesía y Literatura (conoce aquí al poeta Delmore Schwartz, quién lo incitó a ser escritor)..Mientras era estudiante grabó un disco con su primer grupo The Shades con un estílo musical Doo Woop ( mezcla de Góspel y Rhythm and Blues).

Cuando trabajaba en Pickwick Records NY como escritor de música, formó junto a John Cale ( miembro de The primitives y The Warlocks) Sterling Morrison y Maureen Tucker " The Velvet Underground" una de las bandas más importantes en la cultura underground.

Algunos de sus albumes más relevantes son: Lou Reed, Transformer ( producido por David Bowie), Berlín, Songs for Drella ( dedicado a la memoria de su gran amigo Andy Warhol)

Lewis Allen Firbank, better known as Lou Reed, passed away today (27/10/13) at the age of 71.  The death causes are still unknown, although,  the Rolling Stone Magazine reported that the past may, he had a liver transplant.

Lou Reed was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY ( may 2, 1942), he attended Syracuse University, where studied poetry and literature ( here, he met the poet Delmore Schwartz, who encouraged him to be a writer).

While he was a student, recorded an album with his first group The Shades with the musical style Doo Woop ( mix of Gospel and Rhythm and Blues).

When he was working at Pickwick Records NY as a song writer, met John Cale ( member of The primitives and The Warlocks) and founded with him, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker " The Velvet Underground" one of the most important underground bands.

Some of his most relevant albums are: Lou Reed, Transformer ( produced by David Bowie), Berlin, Songs for Drella ( in memory of his dear friend Andy Warhol).
