El estílo tétrico de una pin up es lo que caracteriza a Olympia Le Tan, una diseñadora autodídacta de origen francés e inglés que estudió en la Escuela de Arte de Francia, para despúes comenzar su carrera en Chanel, junto a Karl Lagerfel, donde conoció al diseñador de moda Guilles Dufour. Juntos colaboraron para la marca Balmain, que, despúes de un incidente en una de sus presentaciones en París, donde Guilles y Olympia colaboraron en la elaboración de las camisetas Balmain que llevaban estampada la frase
"Balmain Bitch", enfurecieron a la marca y fueron despedidos, Así fué como Guilles creó su propia marca con Olympia junto a él.

Su amor por la literatura heredado de su padre el ilustrador francés Pierre Le Tan y su obsesión por el bordado heredado de su abuela, se fusionaron con el conocimiento en el diseño de Olympia y así se crearon los famosos "Book Clutches", Bolsos en forma de libros tejidos a mano, elaborados en Francia y distribuidos en edición limitada por todo el mundo.

Los famosos bolsos de la diseñadora fueron de inspiración para el cortometraje "Mourir Aupres de Toi" que realizó junto a Spike Jonze y Simon Cahn, una historia de amor entre una doncella y una calavera que viven en el aparador de una librería. La premiere del film se llevó a cabo en los Cannes Film Festival.
